Congratulations to Ella Latta Suazo, who is the first recipient of the brand-new Grand Philharmonic Youth Choir Scholarship.
Ella will begin studies this fall at Wilfrid Laurier University in the Community Music program.
The $1,000 annual scholarship is for a member of the youth choir pursuing the study of music in higher education. It is generously provided by Lynda and Michael Abshoff.
Ella has completed four years in the Grand Philharmonic Youth Choir and also volunteers with the Children’s Choir.
She decided on the Community Music program because “at the end of the day, music is about community; you can only have music if you have someone to share it with.
“The Grand Philharmonic organization has lifted me up and shown me a new world of music. It has shown me the power of a group of voices, and how the connections made with each other when singing is incomparable.
“I am studying music because I believe in its power to bring people together, to shape lives, and to change how one thinks.”
